It’s Māori Language Week. A week to honour te reo Māori and to encourage the use of our special language. To celebrate, we’re profiling phrases relating to our nature. We challenge you to use one of these this week.

Take a walk among the trees. Me hīkoi ki waenga i ngā rākau.
What is the weather like today? Ka pēhea te āhua o te rangi i tenei ra?
How long will it take to walk the track? Ka pēhea nei te roanga o tēnei hīkoi?
How steep is the track? Ka pehea te tūpari o te ara?
Are there any spare beds in the hut? He moenga kei te wātea i roto i te whare?
Plant a tree. Whakatōongia he rākau.
Would you like to come to our planting day? Kei te pīrangi haere mai ki tā mātou ra whakatō?
What birds visit your garden? He aha nga manu ka tau atu ki tō maara?
