Today’s photo shows New Zealand’s Hamilton’s frog—one of the world’s most endangered frogs—on Takapourewa / Stephens Island, at the top of the Marlborough Sounds.

Critically endangered Hamilton's frog, Stephen's Island, New Zealand. Photo copyright Sabine Bernert.

Takapourewa / Stephens Island is Marlborough’s most remote DOC outpost and one of the only places in the world where you’ll find Hamilton’s frog.

The island is also a haven for most of the world’s tuatara.

DOC has a rare opportunity for you to visit and work on Takapourewa / Stephens Island.

Fit and healthy volunteers are wanted for one of two 10 day tree planting trips. Learn more on the DOC website.

*Another population has since been found on a nearby island.
