Today we’re showcasing the recently restored South Huxley Bivvy in Canterbury—an interesting historic hut in a truly magnificent location.
The project to restore and paint South Huxley Bivvy was completed a couple of months ago, with funding from the New Zealand Outdoor Recreation Consortium.
Led by volunteers Rob Brown and Geoff Spearpoint—both well known writers and landscape photographers with an unparalleled knowledge of the New Zealand backcountry—the project was one of 49 projects funded in the Consortium’s first funding round.
The second round of funding is now open. Applications close on Sunday, 8 February 2015.
Anyone keen to do their bit to help maintain and enhance backcountry recreational facilities should consider applying.
The primary purpose of the fund is to support volunteer led maintenance/enhancement of public huts, tracks or other existing facilities on public conservation land. It’s all about doing more recreation work than what we can achieve on our own.
