This week’s photo comes from John Robinson who took this picture while mountain biking beside Lake Hāwea, in Hāwea Conservation Park, Otago.
Lake Hāwea is a popular place to go mountain biking with stunning scenery beside the lake, through kānuka groves, by woodland and along river terraces.
Otago has three conservation parks: Te Papanui near Dunedin, Oteake in Central Otago and Hāwea near Wanaka.
Have your say on conservation parks
DOC has outlined its vision to attract more people to use conservation parks in its recently released draft Conservation Management Strategies for Otago, Canterbury and Southland.
A Conservation Management Strategy (CMS) is a statutory document that provides strategic direction for DOC’s management of public conservation land.
You can make a submission on the CMS drafts on the DOC website. You have until 13 September to tell DOC if you think it has got it right.
